バックビートは1995年を舞台にジャムセッションを題材とした、マルチリニアタイムベースのパズル／ストラテジーゲーム。気鋭のベーシスト、ワッツと彼女のバンド仲間たちを先へと導き、独自の曲を作り上げ、ファンを獲得しよう！40ステージに時間を巻き戻しながらワッツ達の行動を指示することにより音楽が作られていく。ゲームを進行する毎に新しい楽曲素材、音楽テクニック、クールな90年代アメリカのステージを解放していく。

バックビートは架空のアメリカ郊外の街、「Hornsburg」が舞台。ゲームを遊びながら90年代のショッピングモール、ゲーセン、ビデオ屋などを発見できます。物語は有名なBoiling Pointクラブから始まります。
